The flame-haired entertainer chosen as the first female Wiggle still cannot believe she will soon don the famous yellow skivvy.
Emma Watkins told New Idea she thought it was a prank when she was asked to join the group by blue Wiggle Anthony Field. "I looked around, wondering if there was a hidden camera," she said.
The 23-year-old was named one of the new generation Wiggles when original members Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt and Greg Page retired.
Watkins has worked with the group for more than two years as various characters including Dorothy the Dinosaur and Wags the Dog. She and fellow newcomers Simon Pryce and Lachlan Gillespie toured as back-up dancers with the group through Asia, Europe and the US on their farewell tour.
Field said last year that looking back on the group's 20 years, he regretted not having a female Wiggle.
"We'd have had girls in the group but it wasn't planned, it was like 'let's do this'," Field said.
Fans will be able to see the original four skivvy wearers this month when they kick off the Australian leg of the tour at Perth Arena on November 24 and 25.Watkins' interview with New Idea hits newsstands today.
