Britpop pioneers Blur are preparing a world tour that will include dates in Australia, according to the band's touring company.

"Blur is planning a relatively extensive world tour next year, including Europe, Japan, South America and Australia," said X-Ray Touring agent Ian Huffam in an interview with Pollstar.

The band have already confirmed dates at Spain's Primavera Sound in May and Rock Werchter Festival in Belgium in July, and used their Facebook page to hint at more shows, writing: "More as we know it."

Blur last toured Australia in 1997 and have released two more albums since then, 13 in 1999 and Think Tank in 2003.

The band's future looked in doubt when Graham Coxon walked out midway through Think Tank and singer Damon Albarn shifted his focus to Gorillaz.

But the original line up - also comprising Alex James and Dave Rowntree - reunited in 2008 with a triumphant set at Britain's Glastonbury Festival.

This year Blur released two new songs - Under The Westway and The Puritan - as well as an extensive boxset.

The band also headlined a show in London's Hyde Park as part of the Olympics celebrations.
