Rock veteran Alice Cooper made a surprise guest appearance on stage for the West End hit Rock Of Ages The Musical.

The US singer made his one-off appearance on Tuesday night to mark the 40th anniversary of his hit single School's Out topping the chart in the UK.

He and his band's outrageous performances at the time led clean-up campaigner Mary Whitehouse to call for the video to be banned while one MP tried to stop him appearing in the UK.

Cooper joined cast members including Shayne Ward - who plays Stacee Jaxx - for the performance at the Shaftesbury Theatre.

The 64-year-old, whose real name is Vincent Furnier, has been playing live in the UK and is promoting his forthcoming Halloween Night Of Fear III UK Tour.
