Australian screen veteran Jacki Weaver and rising star Harrison Gilbertson have scored roles in the horror movie Haunt.

Oscar-nominated Weaver will play a former resident of a house in which a family suffered a terrible tragedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

South Australian Gilbertson, who appeared in the little-known movie Virginia starring Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris in 2010, has one of the lead roles.

He will star alongside Liana Liberato whose credits include Trust and the Nicole Kidman/Nicholas Cage flick Trespass.

Haunt is written by Andrew Barrer and centres on a family that moves into a new home with a dark past.

Gilbertson plays the introverted son who becomes involved with a beautiful girl (Liberato) next door and they begin to explore their sexual awakening.

The pair unwittingly invoke an alternative dimension of the house.
