Sam Worthington is set to star with Timothy Spall and Charles Dance in the film adaptation of Tim Winton's The Riders.
He will be the lead in the Robert Connolly-directed film about an Australian expatriate whose wife goes missing - a fitting role for the Rockingham-born actor who lives in Hollywood.
Worthington, 36, said he looked forward to exploring the WA author's novel with Connolly, who is best known as director of the 2009 film Balibo.
"I have always been a fan of Tim Winton and The Riders is fierce about life, emotionally moving and thrilling," he said.
The Riders centres on Australian expat Scully, his young daughter Billie and their life-changing search around the world for his wife.Connolly is also working on a production of Winton short stories from his book The Turning and his novel Breath is also in film development.
