SUNDAY, 8.30PM, SEVEN/GWN7

The dreary haze from the battlefield drifts over to Downton Abbey as World War I rages on, beginning to take its toll on those at home as well as those on the front lines. Life is changing at Downton, though, staying true to providing us with the odd one-liners or sarcastic quips, fans can rest assured that everyone is not down in the dumps. As the death of a wounded soldier motivates Isobel and Sybil to offer the Abbey as a convalescent home, Violet protests, certain the recovering soldiers will "think nothing of pocketing the spoons". Meanwhile, Edith finds a source of self-fulfilment in farm labouring and the tension-soaked love remains painfully unspoken between Mary and Matthew as he again returns home unharmed.
