Urban 'literally carried' grieving Kidman

Nicole Kidman says her husband Keith Urban "literally carried" her after her father's sudden death.

The Australian actress' father, Antony Kidman, died last month in a Singapore restaurant while visiting his younger daughter, Antonia, and his grandchildren.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, Kidman said the support she's received from her country music singer husband has been invaluable.

"When you have your partner who just literally carries you through a tough time he's been amazing to me," said Kidman, who has two young daughters with Urban.

"To have my husband just step up that way, it makes me cry. He's amazing.

"We all go through hard times in our lives. But to be literally carried by your partner - and physically at times because I was so devastated - I'll do anything for that man."

The 47-year-old also revealed how much she appreciated the way others have reached out to her and said grief had a powerful way of connecting people.

"I've realised we don't talk about it enough in terms of our society," Kidman said.

"Everybody loses their parents and it's awful. I'm sorry to bring everything down but I'm at the same time trying to navigate through something right now.

"And I'm amazed when people reach out because it's an awkward thing at times. But to have people go, 'I'm so sorry for your loss' ... the power of that, and even a note or anything, which I've gotten, so much love from people.

"When you realise that someone has gone through a similar thing or is going through a similar thing, it really connects you."

Dr Kidman, an esteemed Sydney clinical psychologist, was laid to rest last month in a funeral at St Francis Xavier Church in Sydney's Lavender Bay.

Kidman's children with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, Isabella, 21, and Connor, 19, didn't attend the funeral.
