Murs wrote letter of apology to Swift

Olly Murs says he wrote a letter of apology and sent a card to Taylor Swift after she implied comments he made about her were sexist, but has heard nothing back from the singer.

Murs went on the 2DayFM breakfast show recently and, when presenters Jules Lund and Merrick Watts told him Swift's new song, Out Of The Woods, was reportedly about Swift's ex Harry Styles, he told her to move on.

Swift went on the show a few days later and, while she didn't mention Murs' comments specifically, she said she found comments about how she writes about her ex-boyfriends sexist.

"No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says it about Bruno Mars.

"They're all writing songs about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love-life, and no one raises a red flag there."

Murs, who is friends with Harry Styles, said he was just having a laugh with the radio presenters and thought his comments had been made into something bigger than they were intended to be.

"I don't know why it's been blown up like this," he told AAP in Sydney on Monday.

"I literally was in an interview having a laugh and it was just banter with the presenters and they said 'this new song by Taylor's been written about Harry again' and I was like 'oh God come on' it was just a bit of jest."

But the cheeky chap from Essex said he felt genuinely remorseful and reached out, the old-fashioned way, to make sure the singer didn't feel bad about his comments.

"I reached out and sent her a letter, a personal letter, three days ago before she did the interview saying 'Look I'm sorry if you feel this way. I didn't meant to offend you. I'm not that kind of artist, I don't look for headlines. I'm not that kind of person' and just a big fat sorry," he said.

However, he hasn't heard back from the Shake It Off singer yet.

He said he didn't include his number on the card but he asked someone to personally deliver it for him.

"I know she received it," he said.

"I'm definitely not sexist, I'm literally just making a comment about one of my mates."

Murs laid the blame with 2DayFM presenters Lund and Watts.

"It was just a bit of jest a bit of banter, I blame the radio presenters to be fair who were having a laugh with me," he said.

Murs also wanted to use the old-fashioned form of correspondence as he didn't want to make it a big story on social media.

"There's no point in doing it on Twitter and making it public for people to see because then it looks like I'm looking for the headlines," he said.

"All I can do is apologise. I didn't ignore it, I made sure she received the letter because I felt bad about it," he said.

"I did it privately because I felt that was the best way to do it."

He also acknowledged that Swift's comments may not have been specifically aimed at what he said, but he wanted to make sure she wasn't offended anyway.

"She said what she said. Whether that was a dig at me, I don't know but I can only say sorry. No offence intended."
