Tyler Jenkins has become accustomed to living out of a suitcase.

Since discovering a love for performing five years ago, the Perth actor has travelled the world to pursue his dream of becoming a star and has recently returned from a stint in the US.

While abroad, the 24-year-old completed an internship in Seattle with casting director Jodi Rothfield, known for her work on blockbusters such as The Ring and Sleepless in Seattle.

"I got to see behind the scenes of the casting process and I got to be personally coached by somebody in the industry who knows what they're doing and has the right contacts," Jenkins told AAA.

"It was a two to three month internship and that's not a lot of time to establish yourself as an actor in any area but in the time I got through all of the training she provided and I was put in touch with an agent there who managed to get me some commercial work for a major gaming console which was really great."

Though he loved being based in Seattle, the Kingsley-raised performer believes his stretch in New York was a life-changing experience.

"Somebody once told me that two months in New York City is like a two-year degree in life and I definitely agree with that," Jenkins said.

"I feel like I grew up there."

After a brief stop back in WA Jenkins has now packed his suitcase once more to head to Italy where he will work for Theatrino, a theatre initiative by the Italian linguistic association ACLE.

In a group with three other English-speaking actors, Jenkins will tour from Milan to Naples, helping Italian children better understand his native tongue through theatre performances.
