She has only been married for a few days but already Amal Alamuddin has been heralded by international watchers as a new style icon.

Not only did the British-Lebanese human rights lawyer wed one of Hollywood's most famous bachelors, George Clooney, in Venice on Saturday but she has also won acclaim for her fashion sense during the four-day celebration.

Alamuddin was decked out top-to-toe in clothes from some of the world's leading designers throughout the weekend, reportedly partly because of the involvement of US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Wintour missed half of Paris Fashion Week to attend the couple's big day and details of the nuptials are set to feature in an upcoming issue of the magazine.

A first glimpse at Alamuddin's custom lace Oscar de la Renta gown was revealed yesterday on the cover of People magazine. The elegant creation was embroidered with pearls and diamantes and featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and a full circular train.

Alamuddin's other style choices while in Italy have already seen her compared to the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Onassis, with the 36-year-old first stepping out in Venice on Friday wearing a 60s-style black and white striped dress by Dolce and Gabbana.

Later that evening, she flew the flag for British fashion when she changed into a scarlet Alexander McQueen dress for a pre-wedding dinner and then spent her first full day of married life on Sunday in a white mini-dress smattered with purple and pink flowers by Giambattista Valli.

The couple capped off their celebrations at Venice city hall on Monday with a civil ceremony to make the nuptuals official.

Alamuddin proved she is a style chameleon by swapping her quirky look of the previous day with something more demure - a Stella McCartney cream trouser suit with a matching wide-brimmed hat.

With the buzz around the lawyer's style only increasing, she is expected to follow suit from the Duchess of Cambridge in the trend-setting stakes.
