The late Princess of Wales, loved red carpet events - but the Australian actor Naomi Watts, who stars in a controversial film about Diana, won't be at the Australian premiere.
Watts' absence has nothing to do with negative reviews for the film in Europe, and everything to do with the fact that she is busy filming in the United States.
"Naomi Watts would love to have been able to make it home to be here for our Australian premiere but has actually started shooting this week in North America on her new film, While We Were Young, alongside Ben Stiller," says Elle Becker, sales and acquisitions manager of Becker Film Group, which is distributing the film in Australia and New Zealand.
There is no shortage of well-known names scheduled to tread the Diana "blue carpet" in Sydney on Thursday, to raise money for the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
Becker says the institute was "one of Princess Diana's favourite charities" and "the great work Victor Chang did in Australia is even referred to in the film a number of times".Among those scheduled to attend Thursday's event are Ronan Keating, Carla Zampatti, Alex Dimitriades, Alex Perry, Gracie Otto, Wendy Harmer and Timomatic.
