British comedian Dawn French is the latest high-calibre celebrity to join Nine's revamped version of talent show Australia's Got Talent.

French was announced on Monday afternoon as the second judge alongside Mel B, who has defected from Seven's The X Factor.

"We feel honoured to welcome superstar comedian Dawn French to join Mel B on the Australia's Got Talent judging desk for the Nine Network.

"Dawn is widely recognised and adored by Australians and her contribution to the show will deliver on our promise for a bigger and better series," Michael Healy, Nine's head of television, said.

"We have expanded the panel to four judges, which will add to the dynamic mix of expertise.

"The final two judges will be announced in coming days."

Australia's Got Talent will air later this year on Nine after it was axed by Seven after flagging ratings and increased costs.

Seven is yet to announce who will replace Mel B on the Australian version of The X Factor, which resumes production in May.
