Melissa George has landed a lead role opposite British actress Janet Montgomery in US drama pilot Gothica.
The Australian actress, recently seen in drama series The Slap and British-American spy series Hunted, will also enjoy some home-country company on set with former Home and Away star Chris Egan and Perth-born model and actress Emma Booth also tapped for roles, according to industry website Deadline.
Set in the present day, Gothica is a clever melange of the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein and Dorian Gray.
The series centres on journalist Grace Van Helsing (Montgomery), who takes over her family’s hometown newspaper.
George will play the show’s formidable force Fiona Hunter, a deliciously cunning woman sent to test everyone including Grace and Dorian, to be played by Egan, and Victor Frankenstein (Tom Ellis).Booth, best known for her role in 2007 film Introducing the Dwights, will play Frankenstein’s wife Madeline Usher in the series.
