Avengers star *Chris Hemsworth *, below, may have been the star attraction at Foxtel's 2013 programming launch in Sydney last night but it was former *Perth * actor *Sam Worthington * who stole the show.
All eyes were on *the Rockingham *-raised Avatar megastar when he crashed the soiree at Sydney's Fox Studios after a meeting with Foxtel heads to discuss the miniseries on Gallipoli he is producing for the pay TV network.
The six-part series, set to go into production this year and air in 2015, will mark the 100th anniversary of the seminal Gallipoli campaign of World War I focusing on the team of journalists, including *Rupert Murdoch *'s father *Keith *, who were embedded in the battle zone in Turkey.
The usually media-shy Worthington, dressed down in jeans, a navy T-shirt and work boots, revealed he is trying to head west for the Australian premiere of surf film Drift, which takes place at March 21 at *Caves House *in *Yallingup *.
"I really hope so. It depends on different schedules and things like that but I hope so," he told _ AAA _.
The Hawaii-based heart-throb spent six weeks filming Drift in the South West in 2011 with good mate and producer *Myles Pollard *.
"It was good to be back home and spend some time in *Western Australia *," he said.
While he doesn't know how long he will be in Australia, he said a visit to his former home town, even if it's not for the premiere, is on the cards.
"I'm unemployed at the moment, I'm on holidays," he said. "My mate Myles Pollard is over there so I'll try to get over to see him and the kids."
Worthington surprised the waiting photographers and former Miss Universe *Jennifer Hawkins *, right, * *during her walk on the red carpet.
Looking radiant in a yellow Mugler gown, Hawkins had arrived fresh from the second day of filming the new season of Australia's Next Top Model, which starts on Arena in July.
"He (Sam) was just commenting on my dress," Hawkins said. of the encounter.
Hawkins has taken over from *Sarah Murdoch *as host of the reality model search, which is Foxtel's highest- rating program, and was struggling with a dry throat after "talking since 5am".
However, the leggy beauty said her hosting duties have been a breeze so far.
"I've been really enjoying it. I'm trying to enjoy the process and find some good talent," she said.
Foxtel ambassador Hemsworth made a brief appearance on the ruby rug before being whisked away out of the watchful eye of the paparazzi ahead of the launch.
Now based in the US, the former Home and Away actor arrived in Sydney with wife *Elsa Pataky *, and baby daughter *India *earlier this week and have been spotted around the city.HOLLY RICHARDS
