Too much Basil can never spoil the dish when it comes to a farcical food show at Fringe World.
Kevin Whittle is one of a squad of moustachioed Basil Fawlty impersonators who tour the world with Faulty Towers: the Dining Experience.
Whittle and fellow actors Geoff Reczek (Manuel) and Amanda McKay (Sybil) pay unofficial homage to the classic British comedy by bringing their own twist of Torquay hospitality to Rigby's Bar and Bistro in the city.
Their performance was only a third scripted, so audience members should always expect something different, Whittle said.
"Most people have a fair idea of what to expect but there are the ones who get a bit of a shock after being dragged along," he said.
Happy to describe himself as an "ageing, Brilliantine, stick-insect", in the words of Basil's domineering wife Sybil, the lanky Whittle said he had won the role as much for his appearance as his snappy improvised comedy skills.
"You have to be able to think on your feet, because anything goes," he said.Performances run until February 17.
