West Australian actor Sam Worthington will team up with director and compatriot Phillip Noyce in the action thriller For the Dogs, industry website Variety reports.

The story is based on Kevin Wignall's novel of the same name and centres on an assassin who agrees to help a bright college girl exact revenge on those who mercilessly murdered her parents and younger brother.

Worthington, who was most recently seen in Man on a Ledge, Wrath of the Titans and The Debt, will also co-produce the film.

Noyce's directing credits include Salt, Rabbit Proof Fence, The Quiet American, Clear and Present Danger and Dead Calm.
