Another glimpse of a beefed-up *Hugh Jackman *in his upcoming action-adventure flick The Wolverine was released yesterday and shows the buff star looking far from the sickly-thin *Jean Valjean *as seen in the *Tom Hooper- *directed musical, Les Miserables.
Between the two starring movie roles, the 44-year-old actor has gone from one extreme to another. He undertook a strict diet and exercise regimen where he lost close to 12kg for the musical role.
Funnily enough, Jackman said he spent more time in the gym than he did bulking for his Marvel Comics character.
"Weirdly, this was almost more physical in a way than an X-Men movie," Jackman told US entertainment website Vulture. "I was spending even longer in the gym - like three hours in the gym - because I needed to be as emaciated as possible.
"I had to eat seven times a day with no carbohydrates, then you had the exercise."
And, in order to look as "emaciated as possible" while filming the opening scenes of the film, Jackman went without water for 36 hours. But once filming for Les Mis wrapped, Jackman's next task was to bulk up again in reprising his role as Logan in The Wolverine, which was filmed at Sydney's Fox studios in October.
In order to obtain his ripped, muscular bod, he consumed 6000 calories a day, which is close to three times the daily intake for the average adult male. The Wolverine hits theatres on July 25.
