What is it about the Irish that they can make truly mad television that is occasionally a bit offensive but always fun? A

nd WA audiences love it, you just have to look at the ratings for Mrs Brown's Boys on Seven.

The Moone Boy series, co-written by Chris O'Dowd (The Sapphires, Bridesmaids), is similar but gentler.

Martin Moone is a young boy who needs the often very poor advice of his imaginary friend Sean (O'Dowd) to help him deal with life with his wacky small-town Irish family in the 1980s.

And, yes, O'Dowd has said that it is based on his own childhood.
