It has been responsible for discovering One Direction, Leona Lewis, Reece Mastin and Johnny Ruffo — and now two Perth hopefuls could have what it takes to win The X Factor.
Merriwa’s Josh Brookes and Morley’s Samantha Jade have been chosen to be part of the top 12 for this year’s Australian version of the smash-hit reality TV show.
Brookes and Jade will perform for the public’s votes for the first time on Monday when the live shows kick off at 7.30pm on Channel 7 and GWN7.
Jade, 25, and her family moved to Los Angeles in 2003 where she was signed to Jive Records, responsible for artists such as Britney Spears and ’N Sync. But her album My Name is Samantha Jade was not released.
Since returning to Perth last year, Jade has been making a living by working at her dad’s Guildford warehouse.
“I have been trying to get my big break for a long time,” she said. "I don’t know if I could handle trying from scratch again.
“It is so much more emotional than it looks. It is really hard on you as a person.
“Not many people get these second chances, so I know what I have got on the line.”
Brookes began singing aged 10 as a way of coping with his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
The former Mindarie Senior College student auditioned for last year’s X Factor and was knocked out in the second round.Brookes will be mentored by Mel B and Jade by Guy Sebastian.
