Taylor Swift encapsulated "mad love" in the songs on her new album Red.

The country singer, who is currently dating Conor Kennedy, wanted to explore love in Red.

"Well, in terms of my album, it kind of signifies the intense, really bold emotions you feel when you're in kind of mad love," she told MTV News.

"And I think that all of the songs on the album are written about those kinds of experiences that I've had."

Swift talks about the colour red.

"I think in terms of, in general, red is just a bold, brave colour," she said.

"Red is the theme of the moment."

Swift is proud of how she has musically matured in this record.

"Each song stands on its own musically, sonically and emotionally too," she said.

"It's kind of a patchwork quilt of all these different styles that have influenced me in one way or another."
