aroline Quentin: A Passage Through India, Friday, 7.30pm, SBS One
The first episode from this three-part travel series presents nothing new. You won't learn much about India as the mumsy, middle-aged English actor lumbers around the north of the continent, cooing over children and exclaiming how different everything is.
Did you know chai is a type of Indian tea and paneer is an Indian cheese? Caroline Quentin didn't. Our irksomely unworldly host admits she's not well travelled.
Pity she hasn't travelled to a supermarket. She claims to avoid the tourist traps but visits landmarks like the Taj Mahal.
A gag-worthy moment comes when she prepares to go to rural India and says "Hopefully it's a bit like Devon".
The most interesting part is at the end when she visits a surrogate boarding house. If you've never heard of chai, paneer or surrogate tourism, this show is for you. If you have, TV has since moved on.'The West Australian' is a trademark of West Australian Newspapers Limited 2013.
