He may have survived another year as host on the gruelling globe-trekking reality series The Amazing Race Australia - but now former Blue Heelers actor *Grant Bowler * will star alongside troubled actress *Lindsay Lohan * in the highly anticipated *Elizabeth Taylor *bio epic, Liz and Dick.
Fresh from being announced to play Taylor's infamous ex-husband *Richard Burton * last week, the New-Zealand born NIDA graduate has juggled a hectic schedule of flying back and forth between LA, where he is now based, and Toronto, where filming for the pilot of his SyFy series, Defiance, has just wrapped.
Given how much the 43-year-old has taken on in recent months, it was understandable when he was 20 minutes late for a Saturday morning interview with * _AAA _ *.
"I'm so sorry to keep you waiting, I've just been in doing wardrobe fittings and make-up and hair," he said by phone from LA.
Though clearly exhausted, he was happy to chat about hosting the second season of Amazing Race. He was close to giving up due to being flooded with acting work, which included guest stints on HBO's hit vampire series True Blood and the new comedy-drama GCB.
"It was a bit of a race getting to the race last year," he said. "But it's a great bunch of people and an even more exciting route they're taking as well."
Bowler was excited about his film role with Lohan, left, and revealed that the pair had already done a few scenes together.
"She's an incredibly talented actress," he said.
Despite Lohan earning herself a tarnished reputation in recent years - she was also reported to have been a "menace" during the casting for the Burton role - Bowler refused to cast judgment on his new co-star.
"Sure, she's had her troubles," he said.
"But people who have had far more problems than her have come back and she's very very talented and very, very committed," he said.
The Amazing Race Australia airs tomorrow at 9pm on Seven/GWN7.
