Six Perthonalities will don their headphones and take to the decks at Luxe Bar in Highgate tonight in one final showdown for the chance to be named the Groupie DJ of Summer 2012.
Now in its 11th year, the annual competition never fails to draw a star-studded line-up and has seen identities such as TV presenter Basil Zempilas, fashion designer Aurelio Costarella and prominent WA businessman Troy Barbagallo compete for the title in the past.
This year is no exception, with The Court manager and fashionista Bree Maddox, stylist Karen Drummond, “Diamond” John Barber, PR guru Camilla Spry, Ben Andrijasevich and Bridget LeGrove from Soda Cafe set to battle it out in the grand final tonight. The winner will not only win the hearts of the crowd but will also be handed a $1000 bar tab to spend in the private Rouge underground den.
Maddox told AAA she initially entered the quest due to peer pressure from friends who had participated in past years, but quickly realised how much she enjoyed getting behind the decks.
“Everyone always tells me I have the weirdest taste in music, so it’s kind of fun to be able to throw all my choices together,” she said.
“I didn’t try to mix a set that would please the crowd, I just wanted to show the music that I enjoy listening to because that’s what this is about.”And for Drummond, the already self-confessed “music addict” may have found a new calling. “I got some DJ equipment for my last birthday, so they have unleashed a demon in me now,” she laughed.
