He may not be climbing any mountains or skydiving out of planes, but acclaimed fashion designer Aurelio Costarella has his own way of giving back when it comes to a cause close to his heart.
Costarella has donated a limited edition gown to be auctioned at the Lexus Ball for Telethon on November 10, which will be modelled by close friend Emily Parish, of the Telethon Adventurers.
Mrs Parish's four-year-old son Elliot lost his battle with brain cancer last year, prompting her former SAS soldier husband Rick to set up the Adventurers. Its members take on charity adventure expeditions to raise research funds.
It was Elliot who was responsible for Costarella and Mrs Parish meeting six years ago. "I am at the hairdresser having my hair shampooed and Emily was in the chair next to me when she started having labour contractions with Elliot," Costarella said.
The bizarre meeting led to a close friendship.
At the ball, Mrs Parish will wear Costarella's De Ville gown, which features a 1930s inspired silhouette with beaded French chantilly lace and hand-dyed ostrich feathers.Jessie Stoelwinder
