Perth born-and-raised actress Kate Jenkinson was in as much shock as the rest of the cast when she first learnt of "the kiss" scene that unfolded in last week's episode of Nine’s comedy drama House Husbands.
For fans of the show who missed the gasp-worthy moment in last Sunday's episode, Poppy's schoolteacher Miss Nadir (played by Jenkinson) and doting dad Mark (Rhys Muldoon) got a little too comfortable at the local pub and ended up locking lips.
"I had no idea and I don't think anyone else did either," Jenkinson told AAA by phone from Melbourne yesterday. "I don't think any of us expected that was where Miss Nadir was headed."
"I think it was just one of those moments where two highly stressed people have just basically been pushed to the brink, possibly fuelled by too many glasses of wine."
And just when things couldn't get any worse, this week's episode sees Abi (played by another Perth-raised actress, Natalie Saleeba) volunteer her time in Miss Nadir's class as a parent helper.
When filming scenes with Saleeba in the wake of the steamy kiss, Jenkinson — who graduated from WAAPA in 2004 and has since starred in a string of TV shows including Ten's drama series Offspring and the ABC's Lowdown — said she tried to imagine herself as the "home wrecker".
"All you have to do is imagine what it would be like if you had done something that terrible behind someone's back, especially a person you have so much respect for," she said.
While it's yet to be known whether Miss Nadir will appear in series two — which begins filming next year — Jenkinson said she could only hope the creators would ask her back.House Husbands airs Sunday at 8.30pm on Nine/WIN.
