Matt Gresham could be the next Johnny Ruffo after making it through to the next round of The X Factor last night. The East Fremantle lad isn't just a singer/songwriter, he works hard on his buff body and told AAA that the thought of becoming the next Ruffo was enough to get him excited.
"That would be amazing," he said.
Balcatta concreter turned pop star Ruffo became a finalist on last year's smash hit talent search and cemented his heart-throb status after stripping off his shirt during one of his live performances.
Other Perth hopefuls who have made it through to the top 24, and will embark on home visits with the star judges in next week's episodes, are Morley's Samantha Jade and Merriwa's Josh Brookes. Brookes made it to boot camp on last year's series only to be knocked out when Guy Sebastian chose Ruffo over him.
Jade is using her time on the show as her last crack at fame. The former Hampton Senior High School student returned from the US late last year after spending almost a decade trying to crack the US market. Since returning to Perth, the 25-year-old has been working in her dad's warehouse in Guildford, and it was only when she came across news of The X Factor auditions that she decided to give her music dreams one final shot.
"I do feel like this is it for me because I've been doing this since I was 15. I think this is kind of a last attempt and I definitely think The X Factor has brought back my love for music again," she told AAA.
While Mercedes College student Veronica Bravo did not make it through to the next round on her own, she was one of five girls put into a group which the show is hoping will be the next One Direction.
Despite several fumbles through boot camp, unemployed teenager Bella Ferraro, who wowed audiences with her audition of Birdy's version of Bon Iver's Skinny Love, was overwhelmed that she made it through. The X Factor continues on Monday at 7.30pm on Seven/ GWN7.
