Sir Elton John has blasted superstar singer Madonna during a candid interview with Molly Meldrum aired last night.

"Her career's over . . . her tour's been a disaster, and it couldn't happen to a bigger bitch," he said in an interview on Channel 7's Sunday Night.

"She looks like a fairground stripper."

The spat follows a feud sparked in January when both were nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Original Song and Madonna won.

This is the latest sledge in the rapidly escalating war of words, although Madonna has stayed sagely silent on the British knight's continued attacks.

Last night, Sir Elton delivered another salvo: "If Madonna had any common sense, she wouldn't have made a record like Ray of Light, stayed away from the dance stuff, and just been a great pop singer and made great pop records, which she does brilliantly."
