Former daytime television queen Kerri-Anne Kennerley says she will fight breast cancer with the same aggression as Sigourney Weaver's heroic character, Ellen Ripley, in the hit Hollywood sci-fi movie Alien.
Kennerley, who announced last week she had breast cancer, appeared on the finale of the Seven Network's reality show Dancing With The Stars on Sunday night.
The 58-year-old performed with dance partner Carmelo Pizzino as a returning participant having been eliminated several weeks ago.
She said her battle with breast cancer was also no different to the battle thousands of women before her have had to undertake.
"It is going to be tough," Kennerley said on the show.
"A lot of people have been through it, it's a well trodden path, but I will approach it with every single ounce of courage I can muster.
"I will probably turn into Sigourney Weaver fighting the Alien - trust me she nailed it!"
Kennerley was criticised in some sections of the media for delaying surgery and treatment to appear on Dancing With The Stars.
She said she was given the green light to perform on the show by her surgeon and she was not jeopardising her health.
"I spoke to my surgeon - not a problem," Kennerley said.
"I explained what I was going to do; I did not take this lightly."A few people thought it was odd, but a few days made no difference."
