UPDATE 1.40pm: Orica has appointed former Macmahon managing director Nick Bowen as the executive global head of the company's mining services division.
The industrial chemicals manufacturer said Mr Bowen would start in the position next month following a global search to fill the role after Craig Elkington was promoted from the position to chief financial officer.
Mr Bowen resigned from Macmahon last year after 13 years in the position after the company was forced to announce big cost blowouts and writedowns on Rio Tinto's Hope Downs 4 rail project.
Orica said Mr Bowen was a highly experienced senior manager with deep experience in the sector and across international operations.
Orica managing director and chief executive Ian Smith said the appointment of Mr Bowen added significant strength to the executive management team and his experience in the mining services sector would be invaluable.
Mr Elkington replaces Noel Meehan as chief financial officer, who will leave the company at the end of next month.
Orica shares closed up three cents at $19.77.
