Toyota says it has resumed production in North America of several models whose sales were suspended over sticking accelerator pedals.

"Every plant involved in the production halt (has) started," a spokeswoman told AFP.

Production at five North American plants was stopped for a week beginning February 1 amid recalls of more than eight million vehicles worldwide due to sticking accelerator pedals that severely tarnished the Japanese giant's reputation for reliability.

Toyota had said on January 26 that it suspended sales of the 2009-2010 RAV4, 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Matrix and 2005-2010 Avalon models as well as certain 2007-2010 Camry, 2010 Highlander, 2007-2010 Tundra and 2008-2010 Sequoia models.
