Avita Medical is progressing with plans to launch its spray-on skin technology into US market after receiving an additional $500,000 from the US Government today.

The WA biotechnology company's half a million dollar grant will be put towards an US armed forces study on its ReCell technology, adding to $1.4 million it received last year.

Avita is working with the US Armed Forces Institute of Regenerative Medicine to get the Fiona Woods burns treatment approved in the country.

"We and the AFIRM program leaders are confident that ReCell will redefine the clinical treatment of burns, scar remodelling and other skin defects and injuries," Avita chief executive William Dolphin said.

Shares climbed 0.5¢ or 3.23 per cent to 16¢ at 11.30am.
