Bauxite Resources has named Sundance Resources chief financial officer, Peter Canterbury, as its new chief executive and executive director.

Mr Canterbury has been chief financial officer at Sundance for the past six years and played a critical role in rebuilding the company after the death of its chief executive and entire board in a plane crash in Africa in June 2010.

Sundance has been in the throes of prolonged takeover by China's Hanlong for the past 18 months, with the deal yet to be settled.

Mr Canterbury also has finance, commercial and marketing experience in the alumina and bauxite industry.

Bauxite Resources has two joint venture bauxite projects in the Darling Range.

Shares in the company were up half a cent, or 4.17 per cent, to 12.5 cents at 8.10am.
