Manjimup Shire Council’s series of talks from successful local women will start this week with an address from Pemberton businesswoman Julie Shuttleworth.
The Anne McKay Address will be held at the Manjimup Repertory Theatre on Friday, with a networking event starting at 11am before Ms Shuttleworth’s address at 12pm.
Ms Shuttleworth is the general manager of the Granny Smith gold mine at Laverton and won the Telstra Business Woman of the Year award in 2012.
“I’ve been meaning to come to Manjimup to share a few of my experiences recently anyway, so this has provided an excellent opportunity,” she said.
“I’ll be sharing stories about my career history and progression from metallurgist to general manager over 20 years in the industry.”
Ms Shuttleworth started work while still at university aged 19, and is recognised in her field for achieving as a young woman in a male-dominated industry.
“For me the work-life balance is very important — being able to get away from site and go travelling is very important.”
She said she was honoured to have been asked to speak at the first Anne McKay address, as Anne had led an inspirational and pioneering life in and around the Warren-Blackwood region.
