Hundreds of shoppers queued outside department stores around Perth from as early as 4am yesterday to bag the best bargains in what have been hailed WA's biggest Boxing Day sales yet.
While dedicated bargain hunters waited outside for up to seven hours, others said they had come to the shops to escape the heat.
Blokes were out in force this year, with the menswear department at several stores almost as popular as the women's sections.
Myer WA general manager Kerry Davenport said more men had joined the post-Christmas scramble, which was traditionally dominated by women.
"They ran in and went for Christmas trees and decorations again, but I think the difference this year is that there has been a lot more men shopping," Ms Davenport said.
"We had queues of people trying on suits and business shirts."
Christine Hamilton, 22, of Hillarys, was near the front of the long line at David Jones in the city, where the first 50 customers were handed a $100 gift voucher when doors opened at 11am. Ms Hamilton said she arrived at the store about 7am because she wanted first pick of glasswear and office clothing, but found others had already queued for a few hours.
"I have been coming every year for three years now," Ms Hamilton said. "It's almost as much of a tradition as Christmas for me now.
Deanne Conway, of Carine, said she had faced massive queues from the moment she arrived at Karrinyup Shopping Centre to buy clothing for her two children.
"I have come most years and I have never seen it this crazy before," she said.
Tony Cardillo, of Jandakot, carried a big pile of shirts and shorts around David Jones as he searched for summer clothing. "I wasn't expecting to buy much but it's looking good," he said.
David Jones WA regional manager Matt Temby said the line outside the city store had snaked halfway down the Murray Street mall and was double the size of last year's.
Mr Temby said Australian- designer womenswear, young menswear, manchester and kitchenware had sold well.
Suburban stores had also seen a strong turnout this year.
