Clough JV wins $400m Wheatstone contract

AAP February 9, 2012, 10:50 am

Clough has won a $400 million contract for Chevron's Wheatstone liquefied natural gas project, its second to be announced in the past week.

Clough, a construction and engineering firm, and joint venture partner BAM International were awarded the contract by international oil and gas service company Bechtel.

The job is worth $200 million to Clough.

The contract is for the design and construction of the Wheatstone product loading facility and tug berths near Onslow, Western Australia.

The scope of work includes the design and construction of a 1.2-kilometre jetty and will result in about 200 jobs, mainly in Australia, at the peak of activities.

"This contract represents significant growth for our near-shore marine construction business, which was established with long-term partner BAM in 1964," Clough chief executive Kevin Gallagher said in a statement.

"We are seeing more near-term opportunities relating to the Australian resources boom than ever before."

Clough last week won a $350 million standalone contract for the hooking up and commissioning of the offshore components of the $29 billion Wheatstone project.

Shares in Clough were down 1.5 cents, or 1.85 per cent, at 79.5 cents at 1319 AEDT, outstripping losses in the broader market.
