Joanne Farrell, the most senior woman in Rio Tinto's global iron ore business, and BHP Billiton Nickel West principal electrical engineer Margaret Watroba are among 16 finalists in the Chamber of Minerals and Energy's annual Women in Resources awards.
Brumby Resources chief executive Alison Morley is also a finalist, nominated as an inspiring example of how women can combine both family commitments and senior roles.
The winners in four categories will be announced on March 8, International Women's Day, and a resources company will be recognised for outstanding initiatives to support female mining workers.
CME chief executive Reg Howard-Smith said the finalists were leading the way for future generations. "Apart from recognising individual excellence, the Women in Resources Awards promote positive role models in what is traditionally a male-dominated industry," he said.
