Amcom up on university contract
UPDATE 3.10pm: Amcom shares were firmer after the company announced a contract with the University of Melbourne to provide a unified communication system across its 13,000 users.
The data and communications company said it was the first major Amcom Cloud Collaboration (ACC) deployment in the higher education sector since it signed a landmark partnering agreement with Australia's Academic and Research Network (AARNet) in May.
Amcom said the ACC platform, powered by Cisco's Hosted Collaboration Solution (HCS), was a pay-as-you-use consumption based service which will integrate with the University of Melbourne's existing unified communications exchange, provided through AARNet.
"It will allow approximately 13,000 users, across eight campuses in metropolitan and rural Victoria, access to an enterprise grade telephony and unified communications solution including telephony, video telephony, voicemail, instant messaging, presence and mobility (collaboration on smartphones and tablets)," the company said in a statement.
Amcom chief executive Clive Stein said the University of Melbourne's early move to adopt Amcom Cloud Collaboration was a clear indicator of the product's future potential in the higher education sector.
"Large scale contracts such as this validates the up-front investment Amcom has made in our ACC offering, leveraging off of our partnership with AARNet," he said.
The company did not put a monetary value on the contract.
Amcom said it would release it full-year results on Wednesday, August 13.
Shares in Amcom were up nine cents, or 4.59 per cent, to $2.05 at the close.
