Shares in Sundance Resources, which lost its board and senior management in a plane crash in West Africa on the weekend, have gone into suspension while the company works out its future governance arrangements.

The suspension extends a trading halt which has applied since before market open on Monday, following the plane crash on Saturday which claimed the board, the company chief executive officer and other officials.

In a letter to the Australian stock exchange on Wednesday, Sundance asked for the suspension "pending the release of further announcements addressing ongoing operation and governance matters".

"We would like the voluntary suspension to last until the company makes an ASX announcement in respect of the ongoing operation and governance matters for the company," Sundance said in its letter.

A former chairman of Sundance, George Jones, has resumed the role while the company rebuilds its leadership team, while the company's chief financial officer, Peter Canterbury, has assumed the role of acting chief executive officer.

Mr Jones says an advisory group comprising himself, lawyer Michael Blackiston and venture capital expert Adam Rankine-Wilson would ask Sundance shareholders for permission to act as de facto directors while the rebuilding process takes place.
