Fortescue Metals Group has named Altynalmas Gold boss David Woodall to replace Jamie Frankcombe as director of operations.
Mr Woodall, who is originally from WA, has more than 27 years' experience in the mining industry, including senior positions at Ivanhoe Mines, Sino Gold, Placer Dome, Glencore and WMC Resources.
FMG said Mr Woodall had also had experience with mining iron ore in the Pilbara, having run Rio Tinto's West Angelas mine before moving to Ivanhoe.
Mr Frankcombe is returning to Sydney to be with his family after only a year in the position.
