Coles opts for local frozen veg

Coles' supermarket-branded frozen vegetable line is to be completely home-grown.

The supermarket giant announced on Thursday that all 30 lines of its Coles-branded frozen vegies would be sourced from Australian farmers, starting this month.

The vegetables will also be packed in Australia by Simplot.

"At a time when most other frozen vegetable brands are being sourced from overseas, we're very pleased that, through our partnership with Simplot, we've been able to continue supporting Australian vegetable growers," Coles merchandise director John Durkan said.

Coles first launched its Australian-grown frozen vegetables range in 2006.

While most of its range has been locally produced, about three lines included veggies that were grown overseas.
