A couple whose life was packed up in a mobile home for a move to Port Hedland is devastated after the bus became engulfed in flames on the Kwinana Freeway, Pinjarra.

Driver Andrew Kirby told Seven News he could smell smoke as he drove. He pulled over to investigate and found his recently renovated mobile home on fire yesterday.

Mr Kirby's wife witnessed the drama unfolding. She was driving behind the bus and when she saw smoke billowing out.

She said she was panicked and devastated because her father had died in a housefire.

Their mobile home was packed ready for a move to Port Hedland next week. It was about to be loaded on to a truck for the journey.

Mr Kirby doesn't know what caused the fire and the old bus was not insured.

He estimates the damage at $30,000.
