Firefighters were called out to a car crash south of Perth last night after the car caught fire and set alight nearby bush.

The single-vehicle crash happened on Pinjarra-Williams Road in Dwellingup just before 7.20pm.

The car caught fire after rolling and started to burn bushland, a police spokesman said.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services had declared a total fire ban for most parts of WA at the weekend as the State’s emergency services were stretched from tackling major blazes.

A bushfire brigade had the fire under control by 7.32pm and it was soon extinguished.

Police said the driver was not injured and inquiries were continuing into how the crash occurred.

Meanwhile, police said no one was injured when a car was destroyed by fire on Great Southern Highway near Ashworth Road in York.

York Police praised firefighters, who stopped the blaze before it caused extensive damage to nearby bush.
