Body found in river at Ascot

A 49-year-old man was found dead in the Swan River in Ascot this morning.

A passerby noticed the man’s body floating in the river near Garvey Park near Fauntleroy Avenue just before 7am.

Water police are at the scene and officers from the Coronial Investigations Unit are now leading the investigation.

A police spokesman said the man’s car was parked nearby and his identity had been confirmed with next-of-kin.

Items belonging to the deceased, including fishing gear and his vehicle, were found nearby.

The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
