Fire destroys cars in carpark

Up to four cars have been destroyed by fire in Myaree.

Callers to 6PR say several cars exploded in flames.

Firefighters are at the scene at the back carpark of Western Diagnostic Pathology.

7 News reporter Geof Parry told 6PR that the fire started under one of the cars.

"They have lost everything. It's just destroyed," he said. "There were four cars in a row and a fire started under the third car.

"It was noticed by a staff member."

The cause of the fire is not clear.

A woman who works at a nearby business on Blaikie Street said black smoke had spread throughout the street.

Western Diagnostic Pathology, was evacuated as a 10-metre-tall tree caught fire and there was the sound of “popping explosions”.

Christine Whittaker, who works at WA Appliance Parts near the car park at Western Diagnostics, said she could smell burning rubber and saw black smoke billowing.

“It was a bit scary,” she said. “I thought, if that wind changes around we're out of here.”
