Beyonce is facing criticism for using an audio clip from the Challenger space shuttle explosion, which killed seven crew in 1986.
Her new song XO uses a six-second grab of a NASA spokesman, who said at the time: "Flight controllers here looking very carefully at the situation. Obviously a major malfunction."
Relatives of the dead astronauts condemned Beyonce's use of the grab.
"The moment included in this song is an emotionally difficult one for the Challenger families, colleagues and friends," said the widow of the shuttle's commander Dick Scobee, June Scobee Rodgers, in a statement.
Beyonce responded in a statement that the grab was included "in tribute to the unselfish work of the Challenger crew with hope that they will never be forgotten."
"My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster," the statement says.
"The song XO was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones."
