Jockey Daniel Staeck’s bid to ride in the Perth Cup has taken a significant hit, with the Racing Penalties Appeal Tribunal rejecting his application for a stay of proceedings.
The RPAT made the move today and Staeck’s chances of riding Kincaple in the Perth Cup now hinge on an appeal against a careless riding suspension.
Staeck copped the suspension for causing interference on Doubt You Catch Me in last Saturday’s Starstruck Classic at Ascot.
Racing and Wagering WA chief steward Brad Lewis said there is a chance Staeck’s appeal could be heard on Monday.
Kincaple is one of the leading fancies for Wednesday’s $500,000 Golden River Developments Perth Cup (2400m) after his close second to Ihtsahymn in the CB Cox Stakes (2100m).
Shaun O’Donnell has been booked to replace Staeck on Knightlike in the cup
