Scarborough Beach has been closed on Christmas Day after a 2.5m tiger shark was seen just offshore.
Surf Life Saving WA announced the closure about 3.30pm when the shark was spotted just 100m from the beach.
“Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter sighted a 2.5m Tiger Shark 100m offshore @ Scarborough Beach with no direction of travel. The beach is closed,” they said.
Receivers had been picking up a tagged tiger shark near Scarborough since the first detection at 1.30pm, 2km out to sea.
Earlier today, the persistent presence of a tagged tiger shark forced the closure of Mullaloo Beach.
Mullaloo was closed just before 8am and was reopened about 9am.
It is unclear if it was the same shark.
