Perth Glory have been handed a much-needed boost in the wake of Alistair Edwards’ sacking, with Brazilian winger Sidnei Sciola Moraes signing a two-year contract extension.
Sidnei, 27, has been a rare shining light in a tumultuous season for Glory, which reached its lowest point when Edwards was dumped as coach yesterday.
Sidnei starred in his most recent performance, scoring two goals and setting up another in the 4-2 win over Wellington Phoenix a fortnight ago.
But he suffered a hamstring injury in the same match and will miss Sunday’s clash with Adelaide United at nib Stadium.
Sidnei played professionally in Brazil, Portugal and Cyprus before paying his own way to Perth for a trial in July on the advice of Western Sydney Wanderers import Youssouf Hersi.
Sidnei quickly settled in at Glory, scoring several goals in the pre-season, and was rewarded with a season-long deal.
He was offered the two-year extension after playing just six A-League matches.
The Brazilian and his wife, Priscila, are comfortable in Perth and had their first child last month.
