Christmas motorists are unlikely to get any festive cheer at the bowser, with petrol prices increasing at near-record rates across the country.
The average unleaded price in Perth jumped by almost 2cents a litre last week, while across the nation the average price increased by a one-week record of 7.3 cents a litre.
Motorists in Perth, where LPG prices last week hit a record high of almost 93 cents a litre, paid on average 149.2 cents a litre for unleaded.
The lowest price last week was 143.7 cents a litre, while the top reached 152.9 cents a litre. It is the highest average weekly price since late September.
But it appears Perth motorists got off lightly.
Sydney's average price rose 11 cents a litre to 151.8 cents a litre, while in Melbourne it jumped 12 cents to 152 cents a litre.
In both cities a long discounting cycle ended.
