A pregnant woman has been accused of shooting and decapitating a man accused of raping her and throwing his head in the town square.
Nevin Yildirim, 26, is awaiting trial in Turkey for the murder of Nurettin Gider, a 35-year-old father of two who was married to an aunt of Ms Yildirim's husband.
Ms Yildirim has two children with her husband and is urging authorities to allow her to have an abortion, but she is five months pregnant - four weeks beyond the 10-week termination limit in Turkey - and says the baby is Mr Gider's.
It is alleged that Mr Gider started assaulting Ms Yildirim days after her husband left home to take a seasonal job in another town.
A source has told CNN of the details surrounding the alleged rapes in the lead-up to the man's murder.
"Yildirim said Gider threatened her with a gun and said he would kill her children, ages 2 and 6, if she made any noise, according to the source," CNN has reported.
"That was the first of repeated rapes over the next eight months.
"At one point, Yildirim said, Gider sneaked into her house while she was asleep and took pictures of her.
"One of the pictures shows her pregnant body. Gider threatened to publish the pictures if she didn't obey him."
At a recent preliminary hearing, Ms Yildirim said she was fed up with the assaults and decided to take the law into her own hands when she saw Mr Gider climbing the back wall of her house on August 28.
She shot him with her father-in-law's rifle, she said.
"I chased him. He fell on the ground. He started cussing. I shot his sexual organ this time. He became quiet. I knew he was dead. I then cut his head off," Ms Yildirim said.
Witnesses said she carried the severed head by the hair into the town square."Don't talk behind my back, don't play with my honour. Here is the head of the man who played with my honour," she told men sitting nearby.
